Joseph Calvin Creswell, son of James and Mary Ann Creswell, was born January 6th, 1854, near Kirkwood, Illinois, and passed away February 6th, 1927, on the farm near Minneola, Kansas, where he had resided for the past twenty-one years, at the age of 73 years and 1 month.

In 1882 he moved with his parents to Madison county, Iowa. On February 25, 1885, he was united in marriage to Martha Emma Ralston, who preceded him in death October 15th, 1911. To this union were born four children, all of whom are living, together with a son and daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren. The children are J. Ralston, Ruth B. and Kenneth C. of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Mary McKissick, with whom he lived at the time of his death.

He was the third child of a family of nine of whom three sisters and one brother remain, Mrs. Sarah Sanders of Wichita, Kansas; Addie E. Creswell of Dexter, Iowa; Mrs. H. C. Smith, Red Oak, Iowa; and James L. of Minburn, Iowa.

He was reared in a United Presbyterian home. In 1906 the family moved to the late residence at which time he transferred his membership to the Associate church, of which he remained a faithful worker.

The funeral was held at the Associate Presbyterian church south of Minneola, Kansas, on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Hull of the Methodist church at that place conducted the services.
