Audrey Nadine Shepherd, Dexter

Audrey Nadine (Neal) Shepherd passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2010 at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday February 8, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter with burial in the Dexter Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday February 7, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Nadine was born on June 27, 1923 to Kenneth and Ruby (Blohm) Neal. She spent most of her childhood in the Dexter area, graduating from Dexter High School in 1941. She received her rural teacher's certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College and then taught for four years in the Bear Creek area near Dexter.

She married John Shepherd on March 18, 1944. John and Nadine farmed southeast of Dexter, moving to Dexter when retiring. They welcomed four children to their family: Susan, Kenneth, Jon, and Michael.

Nadine was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter as a life-long member. She was the pianist and organist there from the time she first played the piano for Sunday School when she was 12, until she retired from that position in her 80's. She also directed the youth choir there for 16 years, and was also active in Presbyterian Women, and as a Sunday School and VBS teacher. She furnished music for over 200 weddings and funerals, She and John were both active in the church as elders and deacons.

She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, her sons Jon and Michael, and her brothers Willis (Bill) and Warren. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Tom) Isenhart of Seattle, WA; her son Ken (Jeani) Shepherd of Dallas Center,IA; grandchildren John (Julie) Isenhart of Seattle, WA; Phillip Isenhart of Dallas , TX; Sara Isenhart of Seattle, WA; Jason (Lisa) Shepherd of Schaller, IA; Abbey (Trent) Drake of Urbandale, IA; and Betsy (Marco) Bejarno of Grimes.

She is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Emilie Nadine Isenhart of Seattle, WA; Ian, Noah , and Tatum Shepherd of Schaller, IA; Gavin Drake of Urbandale, IA; and Max Bejarno of Grimes, IA. Also surviving are sisters Betty Wells of Stuart, IA; Marian Beaman of Adel, IA; and sisters-in-law Helen Neal of Stuart, IA; Doris Neal of Dexter, IA; Mildred Kness of Des Moines, IA; Betty Shepherd of Stuart, IA as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Community Care Center in Stuart, and Iowa Hospice of Panora for their care and compassion. Memorials may be directed to either of these organizations in Nadine's name.
