Page 4Mrs. Laura Miller, daughter of Asa B. Smith, died at her home in Stuart Sunday morning. Death came suddenly. She was born in Madison county in 1865 and made her home in this county, where she taught school for a number of years, until about five years ago, when she moved to Stuart. Her husband preceded her in death five years ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Stuart with Elder Geo. Jones, of Knoxville, officiating, assisted by Elder M. E. Young, of Indianola. Burial was made in the Stuart cemetery.
Several from here drove to Stuart Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Miller: Mr. and Mrs. Ben Davis and son Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, Frank Kellogg, Mrs. Annon James, Fred Allen, Lillian, Lelah and James Smith, G. W. Poffinbarger, daughter, Jessie, Mrs. Jno. Weaver, daughter, Sadie, John Stinson, Mrs. Agnes Terry, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Terry, son Arthur, Mrs. Emma Moore, Elmer Banks, Harvey Pender and from St. Charles, Elder N. J. Wood, wife and son, Hallie, Mrs. Harold Durham and son, James.

Mrs. Laura Smith Miller, Daughter of Asa Smith, Succumbs to Death.
The death of Mrs. Laura Smith Miller, member of an old time Madison county family, occurred suddenly at her home in Stuart Sunday. Mrs. Miller was the daughter of Asa Smith, son of Acquilla Smith, who settled in the county in 1846. She was a well known school teacher, having taught in the northern part of the county a number of years.
Funeral services were held in Stuart Tuesday and relatives from Winterset who went to Stuart to attend the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Terry, John Stinson, Miss Jessie Poffinbarger, G.W. Poffinbarger, Frank Kellogg, Mrs. Emma Moore, Ben Davis and family, Harvey Pender, Elijah Smith, Roy and Victor Smith, Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Smith.

Laura Amanda Alice Smith was born January 18, 1865, in Madison county, Iowa. She grew to maturity with her parents on the farm in Madison township, and was a successful school teacher in the northern part of the county for a number of years.
On March 9, 1898, she was married to H. M. Miller of Stuart, Iowa. They lived in Stuart until her husband’s death about five years ago. She then moved to Jackson township living with her brothers two or three years, moving back to Stuart where she passed away September 18, 1927, aged 62 years and 8 months.
About five years ago she united with the Primative Baptist church of Middle River at Winterset and remained a faithful member until death.
Those left to mourn her loss are A. W., R. A., W. T. and E. S. Smith, of Earlham; S. E. of Winterset; Mrs. Nellie Weaver of Ames and John N. G. Smith of Snyder, Oklahoma, and a host of other relatives and friends.
