GEORGE R. PACE

George R. Pace was born in Kentucky on Dec. 6, 1834, and departed this life at his home in Patterson, Iowa, on July 26, 1916, aged 81 years, 7 months and 18 days. He grew to manhood in Kentucky and after spending a short time in Indiana he came to Madison county in 1866, where he has resided continuously.

He was united in marriage to Lucy Scott on Nov. 10, 1867. To this union were born four children: one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Lenocker and three sons, Wyatt, Charles and Dow, who all reside near and were present during his illness and at the funeral.

He united with the Church of Christ nearly 40 years ago and has lived a consistent Christian life. He was a kind neighbor, a faithful husband, a loving generous father, a loyal citizen and a true friend. He leaves to his children, the legacy of an untarnished fatherhood and a pure and beautiful character.

Those who are left to mourn his departure are his faithful wife, four children, 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two brothers, William Pace of Indiana and Nuzum Pace of Patterson. Thus passes away an old and honorable citizen. We shall miss him, but our loss is his eternal gain.

The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church by Len Harris of Ames and the remains were laid in the Montpelier cemetery for its long and peaceful rest.
