Dexter, IowaJames LeRoy Creswell, son of James and Mary Ann Creswell was born October 15, 1875 at Biggsvilles, Ill. He departed this life at Dexter after a two year illness, on January 7, 1949 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 22 days.
He came with his parents to a farm south of Dexter at the age of seven; four years later he came to Dexter. He was united in marriage to Ethel Overhulser on March 29, 1905. To this union was born one son, Kermit. In 1918 Mr. Creswell received an appointment as Rural Mail Carrier at Minburn where the family lived 23 years. While in Minburn he was active in the Methodist Church, serving on the Official Board and as the treasurer of the Church and Sunday School. He was united in civil affairs; in fact everything for the betterment of the community. Upon his retirement in 1940 he returned to Dexter where he united with the Presbyterian church and was a member at the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Ethel; son Kermit and wife; two grandsons, Jimmie and Kenneth; a sister, Mrs. H. C. Smith Elliott, who was unable to be present because of illness; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral was in charge of Rev. Roy E. Jones, and was held at the Presbyterian Church, January 9, 1949 at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the Dexter cemetery.
Relatives attending the funeral from away were Mary McKissick, Parr, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. Archie McKissick; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Creswell, Minneola, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Overhulser, Belvidere, Ill.; Mrs. Faye Schey and Nellie Overhulser, Washington, D. C..
