Francis Marion Jordan, eldest son of Bazil and Elizabeth Booher Jordan, was born in Noble county, Ohio, April 19th, 1853, and passed away May 12, 1927, at the age of 74 years and 23 days. At the age of two years he came with his parents to Henry county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. At the age of twenty years, he united with the Primitive Baptist church, called Henderson of the Spoon River Association of Illinois.

On August 29, 1875, he was united in marriage to Mary J. Reed of Henry county, Illinois. In the year of 1894 he with his family moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he has resided ever since.

In June, 1895, he was ordained to the full work of the ministry by Middle River Primitive Baptist church of Madison county, where he has held his membership and has been pastor or assistant pastor most of the time since.

He was the father of ten children, three dying in infancy, and one son, Perl, passing away in 1900 at the age of nineteen years. Besides his widow he leaves six children to mourn his loss: Mrs. Lillie D. Crawford, Earlham; Stacy D. Jordan, Grinnell; Grover I., Winterset; Mrs. Grace E. Jones, Des Moines; Mrs. Velma French, Palestine, Texas; and Francis B. Jordan of Leon, Iowa, also eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters also survive him. They are: T. D. Jordan, Hydro, Oklahoma; L. D. Jordan, Skidmore, Missouri; Mrs. Jennis Tweed of Oklahoma; and Mrs. Anna McDowell of Nebraska.

In all of his illness and sufferings the past several months, he was so patient and uncomplaining and was reconciled to the “Will of God.” He so greatly appreciated the administrations of his family and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Primitive Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Elder G. J. Jones of Knoxville, assisted by Elders W. A. Holmes of Newton and N. J. Wood, of St. Charles. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
