Amanda Hale Reed, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Hale was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, on the 19th day of October, 1846, and passed away at her home in Barney May 17th, 1927, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 29 days.

She was united in marriage to Jasper Reed, who preceded her in death on the 17th of January, 1925. The marriage ceremony took place in Warren county on March 30th, 1865. Shortly after, they moved to this vicinity, where they lived until the time of their death, which extended over a period of countless years.

In early life, she united with the Methodist church and later transferred her church home to the Church of Christ at Barney and remained a faithful and sincere Christian although old age and failing health prevented her regular attendance of late years.

Four sisters and one brother preceded her in death, William and Eliza, Mrs. Nancy Palmer, Mrs. Lelia Current and Caldonia Cornelison.

Those remaining to mourn her loss are George Hale of Alder, Montana; A. J. Hale of Pleasantville, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Routh of Breakenridge, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lucy Murray of Lincoln, Nebraska, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Thursday, May 18th, by the Methodist minister of Lorimor. Burial was made in the Barney cemetery.
