DEATH OF S. I. GORDON

Was Early Settler of This County and a Civil War Veteran

Samuel I. Gordon, a former resident of Winterset, died at his home in Omaha, on the 11th at the age of 82 years.

The deceased was one of the early pioneers of this county. He came to this county in 1856 at the age of 12. When the Civil war broke out he, with his twin brother, George, enlisted with the 15th Iowa volunteers.

In 1883 he moved to Omaha where he took a prominent part in civil affairs, was elected to the city council and later to the district court judge. In the latter position he served for many years ----(sentence unreadable) and while health permitted attended the reunion of old soldiers held here every year.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Lovie Gordon and three children by a former marriage. One brother M. C. Gordon, resides here and attended the burial services held in Omaha last Thursday.
