Pg 1Ed Davis, who has been living on the Alfred Cox farm, northeast of town, died Monday morning about two o’clock. Mr. Davis was found in the feed lot shortly after four o’clock Sunday afternoon. The doctor thought he had had a stroke of apoplexy about five hours previous. It appeared that he had climbed down from the wagon in which he had been hauling feed and had been stricken, falling under the wagon. The team remained standing until the body was found. Mr. Davis never regained consciousness, dying about two o’clock.
He is survived by his wife and four children. Of the five sisters that survive him only one resides in this county, Mrs. Walter Cord of Winterset. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lem Davis reside in Winterset.
Funeral services were held at the Tidrick Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Wednesday conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery in Jefferson township.

Pg 3Edward Davis, son of Lemuel and Emily Davis was born in Union township, Madison county, Iowa, January 15, 1882. When he was almost grown he moved with his family to Winterset. He spent many years doing heavy work in the county. He was always a trustworthy hand, a man of unusual strength and a willing worker. He worked several seasons for H. E. Kirby at house moving. Several falls he worked in the harvest fields of Dakota. He worked also a little while in Des Moines and Kansas City but could never be long content away from the open country.
On October 16, 1918, he was married to Marie Burke at Marshalltown, Iowa. They returned to Winterset where they lived until they moved to their present home in Union township. To this union four children were born, Edward, Paul, Doris and Ruth. Mr. Davis was unusually fond of and very successful in fishing and trapping. He had a kind and friendly disposition making and holding many friends. The great outstanding thing in his life was his love of the woods and fields and his love for children.
He has been in failing health for the past year and on Sunday morning he fell from a wagon and endured hours of cold and exposure before being found. He passed away a few hours later on January 25th, 1926, aged 44 years and 10 days.
He leaves beside his wife and children, his parents who live in Winterset and five sisters, Mrs. Florence Currin of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Mary McDaniel of Granada, Minn., Mrs. Nellie Ulrick of Des Moines, Mrs. Bessie Cord of Winterset and Mrs. Dollie Clampitt of Red Falls, Minn.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon from Tidrick’s funeral home.
