William Lodge, a long time resident and respected citizen of Crawford township, died at his home in Bevington on Sunday afternoon, March 13th at the age of 86 years. On March 5th, Mr. Lodge had a stroke of apoplexy, and he only regained consciousness a few times between then and the time of his death.

Mr. Lodge, who was born in Elland, Yorkshire, England, in 1840, came to this county with his wife and daughter in 1869, and located on a farm near Bevington. Twenty-three years ago he moved to Bevington, where he has since resided. He was a man of fine spirits, universally respected and esteemed.

The deceased was married in England in 1866 to Miss Mary Hill. Three daughters were born to this union. Mrs. Lodge died in 1878, and he was married to Miss Bedia Scrivener in 1879, and they had one son, William, Jr.

Mr. Lodge is survived by his son, William, and three daughters, Mrs. John Strable of Bevington, Mrs. Grace Cunningham of Ft. Des Moines and Miss Elizabeth, who resides at home.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frank Moore of Patterson at the Blair Chapel church, Tuesday afternoon, March 15th, and burial was made in the Blair Chapel cemetery.

Bevington

Mr. Wm. Lodge, Sr., a pioneer of Madison county, died at his home here Sunday in the 87th year of his life. A week ago he was stricken by paralysis, from which he never regained consciousness. The funeral was held Tuesday at Blair Chapel. Services were conducted by Rev. Moore of Patterson and interment was in the Blair Chapel cemetery. Three daughters and one son survive him.

William Lodge Sr. was born in Elland, Yorkshire, England, on October 3rd, 1840. In 1866 he was married to Mary Hill. In 1869 with his wife and daughter he came to America, where he settled in Madison county. Mrs. Lodge died in 1878, three daughters being born to this union: Emma, Elizabeth and Grace. On May 29th, 1879, he was united in marriage to Bedia Schrivener, who preceded him in death on January 22nd, 1905. One son, William T. was born to this union. Mr. Lodge died at his home in Bevington on March 13th, 1927, being 86 years, 5 months and 10 days old.

In early manhood the deceased became a member of the Episcopal church of England. He was also a loyal and charter member of the I.O.O.F. fraternal order and by all who knew him he was held in high regard, holding fast to the principals of his Christian faith, living a good life as a husband, true father and friend.

Mr. Lodge leaves to mourn his death, three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 15th, from the United Brethren church on Brush Ridge, conducted by Rev. Moore of Patterson. Interment was made in the Brush Ridge cemetery.
