Mrs. Laura S. Chapman died last Wednesday night, March 2nd, after a short illness. She was seventy-five years of age, and while she had been in poor health all winter, she became seriously ill, only a few days previous to her death, with stomach and kidney trouble.

Mrs. Chapman came to Winterset with her husband, J. Wright Chapman, in 1909 and she has since resided here. She is survived by four children: Mrs. J. B. Clark of Winterset, Henry of Des Moines, Claude of DeSoto, and Robert of Victor.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton at Tidrick’s Funeral home, Friday afternoon, March 4th, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Laura S. Jamison was born in Crawford county, Ohio, June 7th, 1857. Her mother died when she was but three weeks old and she was raised by her grandparents. When six years old, she came with them to Webster county, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood. In 1872 she was united in marriage with T. Wright Chapman and to this union, seven children were born, four of whom are still living: Mrs. J. B. Clark of Winterset, Henry of Des Moines, Claude of DeSoto and Robert of Victor, Iowa.

In 1884 the family moved to Gospel county, Nebraska, where they lived until 19--, when they came to Winterset and spent their remaining years.

In early life she, with Mr. Chapman, united with the United Brethren church and always lived true to their faith.

Her later years of life were brightened by her 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She died quietly Wednesday night after a short illness at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 24 days.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton at Tidrick’s Funeral Home on Friday afternoon, March 4th. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
