Winterset Madisonian – March 3, 1927
Pg 3

John Franklin Deardorff, son of Pleasant and Rebecca Jane Deardorff, was born in Circleville, Kansas, February 6th, 1859. He came with his parents to Mahaska county, Iowa, when he was one year old, and afterward came to Madison county when he was six years old, settling near Peru, and has made his home there ever since. He departed this life at Peru February 25th, 1927, at the age of 68 years and 19 days.

He was married to Luella Clifton, January 1st, 1896. To this union was born one son, William F. Deardorff, of Winterset. He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife, son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. F. Deardorff; also two brothers and two sisters, Charley and Harley of Rifle, Colorado, Mrs. B. S. Todhunter of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Othello Beeler of Peru.

He was a devoted and faithful husband, a kind and loving father, always ready and willing to do everything he could for his beloved wife and son. He loved his home and neighbors and no neighborhood gathering was complete without Frank and Lue, as they were commonly called by friends and neighbors.

He was of a cheerful disposition, always considering the wellness of others. Although he was never affiliated with any church organization he was always found ------ to uphold the Christian standard of living and gave to the church and every worthy cause. People tenderly said that Frank was a good man and many men and women of the neighborhood will long cherish his memory.

He was made a Master Mason at Truro April 28th, 1888, demitting from that lodge to become a charter member of Peru lodge in July 19--. Since that time he held about all the offices of the lodge.

Note: Burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.
