JOHN McGUIRE

Early Monday morning this vicinity was shocked on hearing of the sudden death of John McGuire, an old settler of this part of Madison County. He was taken suddenly sick at 9 o'clock a.m. and died at eleven. A doctor was called, but he found him dying from apoplexy when he arrived.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Milholland and burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.

John McGuire passed away Monday, after an illness of but a few hours. He was stricken with apoplexy, and never regained consciousness. The funeral was held from the late home at two oclock. Rev Milholland of the Christian church of Peru had charge of the services and interment was at Ebenezer cemetery.

He will be greatly missed by his relatives and neighbors, and a large host of friends. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were John Millard and daughter of Harvey, Iowa; Chas. Clifton of Osceola, Dr. Garrett of St. Charles, C. Barker and wife of Macksburg, Mrs. Cass Garrett of Macksburg, J. N. Riggle of Murray and a nephew from Meadesville, Mo.

DEATH OF JOHN McGUIRE.

This community was inexpressibly shocked when word was received at noon Monday that John McGuire was dead of apoplexy, with only about three hours illness.

Mr. McGuire had not been well for sometime, but was about and on Saturday was in Peru and visited or chatted with the merchants, and friends he met on the streets. He was strictly conscientious in his dealings. He made many friends and will be greatly missed by his bereaved wife, by his neighbors and by all his friends.

The funeral was held from the late home Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Milholland, and the body laid to rest in the Ebeneezer cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken wife. Below is the obituary as read at the funeral:

JOHN FRANKLIN McGUIRE, son of Spencer J. and Mary McGuire, was born Dec. 10th, 1852, and departed this life Feb. 14, 1916. Age 63 years, 2 months and 14 days. He was married to Sarah J. Clifton on Dec. 18, 1881. He is survived by his wife, also two sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Riggles whose home is at Meadville, Missouri, and Mrs. Catharine Garrett of Macksburg, Iowa.

He was a dutiful son, kind and affectionate brother, ever faithful and considerate husband. A good generous neighbor. He will be greatly missed and sincerely mourned by all his relatives and friends.

Relatives who attended the funeral of J. F. McGuire from a distance were Mrs. Catherine Garret, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Barker, and Charley Garrett, all of Macksburg; Harley Garrett of St. Charles, John Riggles of Murray, John Millard and daughter, Mrs. Zylstra, of Harvey, Iowa, Charley Clifton of Leslie and Clyde Kenyon, of Hale, Missouri.
