Dexter, Iowa

Carl Edward Faust was born in Sweden, Province of Smaland, Parish-Nydala, November 3, 1871, and passed quietly away at his late home south of Dexter, Iowa, April 25, 1938.

In early life he was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church and lived and held in this faith all of his life. He was the oldest son of ten children born to Anders J. Faust and Matilda Danielson. He emigrated to America alone in the spring of 1887, when only 15 years of age and settled in Creston, Iowa. As a boy he worked on the farm and in early manhood in the railroad shops.

October 13, 1895 he was united in marriage with Hilma A. Anderson (Hanson) of Creston. To this union were born six children, John E. Faust of Winterset, Ida Beaman of Melcher, Oscar Faust of Dexter, Mae Faust of Des Moines, and Alice Faust of Covina, California. An infant daughter preceded her father to the great beyond.

The first sixteen years of their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Faust spent on a farm near Creston. In the spring of 1912, they moved to a farm south of Stuart, where he was actively engaged in farming and cattle raising for three years. Later they moved to the W. S. Robinson farm south of Dexter, where he continued in the same business for 14 years, and there Mr. and Mrs. Faust happily spent the last ten years. It was one of his chief ambitions to have a home of his own, and by honest work and great ambition, he succeeded in his endeavor.

Mr. Faust was taken ill in October 1937 while helping with the remodeling of their home. He gradually became weaker but was able to be about until three days before his death. During his illness he never lost courage and was concerned to the last for his beloved companion and children.

He will long be remembered as a loving father and one of the finest neighbors and citizens.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, five children above mentioned, nine grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur and John of Creston, and August of Stuart; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Danielson of Creston, Mrs. Esther Baldwin of Des Moines, in America; two brothers, Oscar and Gustave Faust and two sisters Jennie and Ruth, in Sweden with a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at Penn Center and were conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.
