Dexter, IowaBorn January 28, 1876 in Sweden, Hilma Agnes Hanson came to this country at the age of 18. She made her home in Creston, Iowa with her uncle, Charles Hanson. On October 13, 1895, she was united in marriage to Carl Edward Faust, and to them five children were born.
She and Mr. Faust moved to the Dexter vicinity in 1912.
She received Christian baptism in Sweden in the Swedish Lutheran faith at an early age. She established her membership in the Methodist church of Creston, and in 1946 transferred it to the Dexter Methodist Church. Here she was active in the work of the church and of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service and of the Golden Age Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband who passed away April 25, 1938 and by five sisters and one brother. She passed away quietly at the Guthrie Center hospital May 5, 1965.
She is survived by five children John Edward Faust of Mt. Ayr, Ida Marie Beaman and Carl Oscar Faust, of Stuart, May Hilma Beck of Burlington, and Alice G. Nash of Covina, Calif.,
also one sister, Eva, in Sweden, and one brother, Emil Hanson of Camanche, Iowa; and by fifteen grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and by many other relatives and friends.Mrs. Faust was vitally interest in all that went on in the world around her; she belonged to several local clubs, and was active in her community until illness took her strength. She will be sadly missed and long remembered by her family and friends. Mrs. Faust has lived alone in her home in northwest Dexter since moving from her farm, south of Dexter. A highlight of her life was a trip to her homeland, Sweden, in 1958.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 8, from the Dexter Methodist church with Rev. John Latta in charge. Music was presented by Berneita Patience, organist, and Carol Weesner, soloist. Cecile Drake, Wilma Isenberg, Annette Adkins and Helen Evans were in charge of flowers. Casket bearers were Harry Giles, Carl Johnson, James Adkins Sr., Ned Drake, George Weesner and Russell Horn. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.
Note: Hilma's correct Swedish name is Hilma Agnes Olofsdotter Åstedt, and her brother's correct name is Nils Emil Olofsson Åstedt, per their sister, Jenny Matilda Olofsdotter Åstedt
