HENRY BOWMAN, Last Mexican War Veteran, Dies at Age of 91.

Henry Bowman, a veteran of both the Mexican and the Civil War, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. W. Simpson in this city, on Christmas day at the age of 91.

He was the last survivor of the Mexican war living in this county. Mr. Bowman was born in Greene county, Ohio, December 20, 1824. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the Mexican war as a private in Co. G, First Regiment of Ohio Volunteers and also served in the Civil War in the 33d Iowa.

In 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Moore. To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls. His wife and two daughters have preceeded him to the better land. He was a kind husband and father and was respected by all who knew him. He is survived by six children: Albert of Schuller, Washington; Mrs. J. D. DeMars of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. W. H. Cox of Denver, Colo.; Lee, Morgan and Mrs. S. W. Simpson of Winterset, and W. H. Bowman of Monroe; thirteen grand children, sixteen great grand children and one great great grand child.

Since the death of his wife he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. S. W. Simpson of Winterset. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Baptist church at Monroe, where the funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon. A short service was held at his late home on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Corkey.

Henry Bowman was born December 20, 1824 in Green County, Pennsylvania and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. W. Simpson of Winterset, Iowa on December 25, 1915, aged 91 years and 5 days.

At the age of 22 he enlisted in the Mexican war as a private in Co G First regiment of Ohio Volunteers, also served in the civil war in the 33d Iowa.

In 1850 he was united in marriage to Miss Moore. To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls. His wife and two daughters have preceded him to the better land. He as a kind husband and father and was respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss his children, Albert of Schalier, Washington, Mrs. J. D. DeMars of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. W. H. Cox of Denver, Colorado, Lee, Morgan and Mrs. S. W. Simpson of Winterset and W. H. Bowman of Monroe; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
