Page 3Mrs. Myer died in Denver, Colorado, December 12th, 1926, after a short illness of pneumonia. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. Loren Edwards of the Trinity Methodist Episcopal church on December 15th.
She had just returned from a very delightful visit with old friends and relatives in both Osceola and Winterset.
Mrs. Myer was born near Millersburg, Ohio, April 30th, 1841, and was the daughter of William R. and Ann Guiberson Ruby. In 1851 the family moved west in a covered wagon and settled in Winterset. On their arrival in Iowa, Mr. Ruby became the leader of Methodism in Madison county, and was greatly assisted in the musical work of the church by his daughter, Elizabeth, who joined the Methodist Episcopal church when 12 years of age.
In 1859 she married Jesse R. Lambert, who became First Lieutenant of Company I, 4th Iowa cavalry, but died soon after entering active service in the Civil War. Of this marriage one child was born, now Minnie L. Knapp of Los Angeles, California.
In 1867, she married William L. Myer, and they moved to Osceola, where Mr. Myer at one time had the largest hardware business in southern Iowa. Of this marriage were born Ruby William, who died December 19th, 1913, and Lemyra A. of Denver, Colorado. Mr. Myer died in Osceola on June 15th, 1897.
Mrs. Myer became one of the leaders of the Methodist Episcopal church in Osceola, was a Sunday school teacher for years, also president of the Ladies Aid society during the building of the new church, and for several years was president of the Women’s Foreign Missionary society, and a member of the official board of trustees.
She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having joined during the organization of said Order, and has her certificate dated January 28th, 1866, and signed by Robert Morris, nation patron. She later became affiliated with Radiant Chapter No. 12, Order of Eastern Star, Denver, Colorado.
She was also a member of Women’s Relief Corps No. 102 of Osceola, Iowa. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Myer is survived by two children, Mrs. Edwin H. Knapp of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Lemyra A. Myer of Denver; one sister, Mrs. Martha R. Frye, of Denver; and four grandchildren, viz: Martin L. Hite of San Diego, California, Mrs. Ashley Warlick of Lake Providence, Louisiana, Albert M. Knapp of New York City, and William C. Myer of San Francisco; also by three great grandchildren.
Her body was cremated at Riverside cemetery in Denver and the ashes will be buried in the family plot at Osceola, Iowa.
