Pg 1Thomas J. Kirk, a well known resident of Madison county, died Tuesday morning about 8 o’clock at his home in Peru. Mr. Kirk had not been well for some time, and died at the age of 76 years.
The deceased came to this county when he was a small boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Kirk of Indiana. They settled here about 70 years ago, and Thomas J. Kirk has since resided in Scott and Walnut townships.
He is survived by his wife, who is in poor health and two children, W. R. Kirk of Winterset, and Mrs. L. M. Delaplain of Peru.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cooper at 10:30 o’clock this morning at the Kirk home. He was buried in the Peru cemetery. More particulars will be found in the mortuary column next week.

Pg 8Thomas J., son of John B. and Lucy Kirk, was born in Indiana, November 20th, 1849, and died at his home in East Peru July 27th, 1926. He came with his parents to Madison county when quite a small boy.
On April 11th, 1869 he was united in marriage to Ann Stevens. To this union were born four children, Luella, Walter A., W. R. and Nellie A. Walter and Nellie preceded him in death several years ago.
He was converted and joined the Christian church at Old Peru about 50 years ago under the pastorate of S. O. Calvin. He had been failing in health for the past two years and suffered a great deal during that time, often expressing a desire that he might be called home out of his suffering.
He leaves his wife, who is in very poor health; two children, Luella F. Delaplain of East Peru and W. R. Kirk of Winterset; two grandchildren, Vera Cosand and Edna Kirk; two great grandchildren, Marian and Dale Cosand; two brothers and three sisters, J. W. Kirk of Marshalltown, Joseph Kirk of Mason City, Mrs. Matt Degman of Everett, Washington, Mrs. Selba Campbell and Mrs. Retta Prather of Winterset, also a large number of other relatives and friends.
Rev. Frederick Cooper of Truro conducted the funeral in the home Thursday morning, July 29th, and burial was in the Peru cemetery.
