Winterset Madisonian – May 27, 1926
Pg 3

Sarah Penina Young, daughter of George W. and Sarah Moore Young was born in Scott township, Madison county, October 28th, 1858, where she lived continuously until her removal to Winterset about twelve years ago.

She was educated in the public schools of this place, afterwards teaching successfully for several years in the rural schools of Madison county.

She gave up her chosen profession to assist in caring for an invalid aunt in the home. The following years of self-sacrifice and deep devotion to her widowed mother and invalid aunts made her life one of great service and like her Christ she passed away at her home May 20th, 1926.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ed. Houthey of North Loup, Neb., Mrs. H. M. Thompson of Earlham, and three brothers, W. C. Young of Shelley, Minn., George and James of Winterset, besides a number of beloved nieces and nephews. In her passing she leaves to these dear ones a priceless legacy of a beautiful life that has fulfilled its mission.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton.

Winterset Madisonian – May 27, 1926

People of Winterset and surrounding community were shocked last Thursday to hear of the death of Miss Nina Young, in seeing that Miss Young had been up town in the afternoon, and was seen on the streets at 5:30. About 6:30 o’clock, Mrs. J. M. McCombie went out in the yard and found her dead in the hammock. Miss Young had a severe attack of flu in the winter, and had several attacks of heart trouble, but she was feeling as well as usual on Thursday. It is thought her death was caused by heart trouble.

Miss Young was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Young and was born in Scott township sixty-eight years ago. She taught in the rural schools for a number of years, coming to reside in Winterset twelve years ago.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ed. Houthy of North Loup, Nebraska, Mrs. H. M. Thompson of Earlham and three brothers, W. C. of Shelley, Minn., George and James of Winterset.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton at the Methodist church. More details of her life can be found in the Mortuary column.

Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
