Louisa Rachel Coltrane, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Allen Coltrane, was born March 8, 1855 and died at her home in St. Charles, Aug. 16, 1925, aged 70 years, 5 months and 8 days.

On Jan. 19, 1877 she was united in marriage to John F. Johnston. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Guilliams of this place; one sister, Mrs. Mary Shutt of Oklahoma, who could not be present on account of poor health, three brothers: Cass, Allen and Alva J. Coltrane of New Virginia, and many other relatives and friends.

She was a good, kind woman, ever ready to help in time of need when her health would permit. She was a charter member of John Miller W.R.C. No 242 and of Model chapter, No. 174, O.E.S. She was also a member of At Home Rebekah lodge No. 469. She was an active member of the M.E. church and was always in her place of worship on the Lord’s Day when health permitted.

She had been in failing health for several years, and the past several weeks was confined to the house, and her bed most of the time under the care of a nurse. Everything was done for her that could be done by loving hands and kind friends, but the Lord took her from her earthly troubles.

Funeral services were held in the M.E. church, Aug. 18th at 2 p.m., conducted by her pastor, Rev. A. E. George, assisted by Rev. E. E. Briggs, of the Christian church and her remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery, to await the great resurrection morn.
