Abe Smith died just after noon on Wednesday. He had been in frail health for several months, but not confined to his room. He started to walk around the house and dropped dead. Mr. Smith, who was 75 years old, was born in Indiana and came to Madison county when just a young man. He always made his home with his uncle Stephen Smith and his widow, with the exception of a few years, when he lived nearby. He is the last of his father’s family.

Funeral services will be held at the Tidrick funeral home Friday afternoon at two o’clock and burial made at the Winterset cemetery.

Abe Smith, son of Johnson and Melvina Smith, was born at Clear Spring, Jackson county, Indiana, June 12, 1850. He never married and spent his earlier life in Kentucky and Indiana. With the exception of ten years he made his home with the family of his uncle, Stephen Smith. For the past two years he has been in failing health, but an ever patient sufferer and died very suddenly of heart failure on July 22, 1925, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 10 days. He combined great physical strength with a gentle kindly spirit and was always a good neighbor, willing to help others. He leaves no immediate family, but a number of nephews, nieces and cousins, and a great circle of friends who will ever cherish his memory. Funeral services were held at the Tidrick funeral home on Friday, July 24th at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
