The death occurred in Ames of P. L. Stanley at the age of 68. For the past few years, he had been ailing, but his condition did not become serious until two weeks ago. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Weyrauch, early Friday morning. The deceased was at one time a highly respected resident and merchant of this town for many years.
The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the home of his brother, T. E. Stanley, Rev. Jones of Collins, officiating. Many friends from neighboring towns were here to pay the last tribute of respect to their old friend.

Thursday, June 7, 1925Local relatives and friends of Mr. P. L. Stanley were pained to learn this morning of his death at the home of his daughter Mrs. Lillian Weyrauch at Ames at two a.m. Mr. Stanley contracted a cold on the cold Sunday two weeks ago, and this developed into pneumonia which found his frail constitution ill equipped to resist the fatal malady. Arrangements for the funeral are not yet complete, but the body will be brought here Saturday and the services held probably at two o’clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. Stanley was a pioneer merchant here and numbers his friends by scores.

Thursday, June 14, 1925Peter Ladd Stanley was born in Wabash, Ind., September 29, 1856, and died at Ames, Iowa, June 5, 1925, aged 68 years, 6 months and 6 days.
When a young boy he moved with his parents to Iowa and settled in Mahaska County. Here he grew to manhood. On April 28, 1881 he married Alfretta Anderson and soon moved to Earlham, Iowa. Here the P. L. Stanley home was established, and most of their married life was lived in or near this community. He was a birth-right member of the Friends Church. Later he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was always deeply interested in the welfare of his church and his home town.
He was devoted to his home as husband and father and was constantly concerned for those who were near and dear to him. About five years ago his health began to fail and since that time he has had to labor much under the burden of declining strength.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and companion, a son Dean of Des Moines, Iowa, three daughter, Mrs. Maud Roark of Mitchellville, Iowa, Mrs. George Weyrauch, of Ames, Iowa, and Mrs. W. A. Weyrauch of Ames, Iowa, two brothers, T. E. Stanley of Earlham and A. R. Stanley of Dunavant, Kansas, and one sister, Mrs. L. J. Hockett, of Earlham, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. L. O. Jones and burial was made in the Earlham Cemetery.
