Winterset Madisonian – June 11, 1925
Pg 3Laura Jane, eldest daughter of Chas. R. and Catharine Garrett, was born in Clarke county, Iowa, March 12, 1868 and departed this life May 23, 1925, aged 57 years, 2 months and 11 days. She grew to womanhood in Clarke county and was one of the pioneer school teachers in that vicinity, having taught 22 terms of school.
On July 24, 1896, she was united in marriage to William J. Iiams, and this union was blessed with two children, Lula Mae, now Mrs. W. A. Kirkland, and Brady Marion, who died in infancy.
Always leading an upright and exemplary life, Mrs. Iiams during her last illness made a profession of faith and accepted Christ as her Savior, and it can be truthfully said that no one ever heard a complaint or murmur during her long days of suffering.
She was preceded in death by her son, both parents and four sisters. Besides her husband, who has so faithfully cared for her, she leaves her daughter, five grandchildren, three brothers: Wesley G., Charles F., and Harley H. Garrett; together with countless other relatives and friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held from the Baptist church on May 24th, conducted by Rev. Hendricks of Oak Grove and burial made at the Macksburg cemetery.
