Page 8Eli Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stevens, was born Aug. 30, 1849, near Rome, in Henry county, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Emma Beem, Dec. 25, 1870. To this union nine children were born, three of whom preceded him in death: Elmina, in infancy; Ora, aged 18 and Maude, wife of C. C. Carman, age 47.
He leaves to mourn his departure six children: Mrs. N. W. Oglesbee and W. L. Stevens of Winterset; W. D. and L. D. Stevens of St. Charles; Mrs. G. A. Bolin of Eldon, Iowa and Mrs. Fred Day of Stapleton, Nebr.; also 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He departed from this life, Feb. 5, 1925 at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 6 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. R. Weed at the home of N. W. Oglesbee, on Sunday, Feb. 8th, with burial at the King cemetery.
