Page 1MRS. ORA SULGROVE DIES FROM POISON
Self-Administered Poison Is Fatal After Two Weeks Illness
Mrs. Lola Cunningham Sulgrove, 25 years old, heroine of a war time love affair and beneficiary of her lover’s will when he died on the fields of France, is dead, a suicide. Her funeral was held Wednesday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cunningham, in Redfield.
A rough scrap of paper, stained with clay of the battlefield was sent her two years ago, bequeathing to her $40,000 in personal property and real estate. The donor was Roy D. Palmer, formerly of Des Moines and Valley Junction, who went overseas with the Eighty-eighth division.
It was not until after the death of his stepmother, Mrs. L. P. Maulsby, in Wisconsin, that notification of the bequest was sent Miss Cunningham. The family of Mrs. Sulgrove stated today she had not received the bequest.
Mrs. Sulgrove, whose home was in Pitzer, came to Redfield a week ago and disclosed to her parents she had taken poison. She would give no reason for her act. Her death occurred Monday.
She is survived by her husband, Ora Sulgrove; her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Eli Nida of DeSoto, and Mrs. Elna Wigton of Redfield.
The above from the Des Moines Capital, recites a sorrowful tragedy in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Sulgrove, whose home was on a farm two miles north of Pitzer. Mr. Sulgrove is a son of the late W. S. Sulgrove of Jackson township, and a veteran of the world war.
