Mrs. Ardilla May Hiatt died on Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale Hylton of Lincoln township. The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., at the Hylton home, with burial at Peru. Rev. Cooper of Ord, preached the funeral service.

Much sympathy is extended to the family which Mrs. Hiatt’s death leaves bereaved of a mother, and to her many friends who will sorrow in her loss.

Mrs. Arvilla May Hiatt was born at Lawn Ridge, Marshall county, Ill., Jan. 17, 1863 being the sixth child of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Foster. She lived in the place of her birth until she was 15 years old, when her parents moved to Iowa, arriving in Old Peru on Thanksgiving Day, 1879.

She was married to W. L. Hiatt in June 1882. To this union were born 11 children. Three of the children: Elverna, Lura and an infant son died many years ago. The husband and one daughter, Beatrice, died in 1910. One son, Clell, died in France, at the Battle of Sergy, July 20, 1918.

Mrs. Hiatt was converted when a young woman about 23 years old and joined the Christian church of Peru, remaining a faithful and active member, taking interest not only in the local church activities, but also in the conference and general church programs, until age and failing health compelled her to cease from active service. She made her home the last several years of her life with her daughter, Mrs. Dale Hylton and family, where she died after an illness of nearly three months at 8 a.m., Nov. 24, 1924.

Those remaining to mourn her departure are: Melvin E. Hiatt, Earl W. Hiatt, Verlan Hiatt and Jesse Hiatt, sons; and Mrs. Dale Hylton, Mrs. Carl Hulbert, daughters; besides one sister, Mrs. S. D. Deleplain and one brother, Albert Foster; 9 grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frederick Cooper, pastor of the Truro Christian church, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hylton, and she was laid to rest in the cemetery at Peru, Nov. 26, 1924.
