John Donaldson was born in Bath county, Kentucky, Oct. 7, 1842. In 1850 he moved to Menard county, Illinois with his parents and in 1858, moved to Grundy county, Missouri.

On Aug. 12, 1861, he enlisted in Company C, 5th Kansas Cavalry and after serving three years was mustered out Sept. 7, 1864. He was married April 19, 1866 to Louisa Howard, who preceded him in death in 1911. His second marriage was to Mrs. Marguerite Johnson of Des Moines in 1913, who survives.

The surviving sons and daughters are A. R. Donaldson of Rock Island, Ill.; J. N. Donaldson of Kalispel, Mont.; L. E. Donaldson of Bedford, Ind.; Mrs. F. Johnson, and Mrs. C. Brink of Omaha. Two daughters, Mrs. G. R. Hegarty and Mrs. W. Kennedy, have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F. C. McCaullah and assisted by Rev. D. J. Shenton.

Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
