FRANCIS MINTURN

Francis Minturn, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Minturn died Sunday morning at Oakdale Sanitarium near Iowa City, where he was taken last year for treatment for tuberculosis.

The body was taken to Neola, Iowa, for burial and the funeral services held on Tuesday forenoon. He was a fine young man, well liked by his school mates and associates here, where the family resided before removing to Des Moines. Years ago the first symptoms of tubercular trouble appeared and during all these years he put up a brave fight for life but without avail. He was twenty-five years of age and the oldest of five children.

Francis B. Minturn, a former Winterset boy and graduate of the Winterset high school, died Sunday morning at Oakdale of pleurisy. The body was taken to Neola Monday and funeral services were held Tuesday morning.

Francis Minturn was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Minturn of Des Moines. He came to Winterset with his parents from Neola when he was five years old. He graduated from the Winterset high school in 1908 and that fall entered Ames for a four years’ course in engineering. During one of his vacation periods he was taken sick with pneumonia and was confined to his home for several months. Later on, tuberculosis set in. He spent two years in New Mexico, Arizona and California and last June entered the sanitarium at Oakdale. He regained his health rapidly and was preparing to return to his home in Des Moines when he was taken sick with pleurisy which later caused his death.

Mr. Minturn had many friends in Winterset. He was a bright scholar and one of the best athletes the high school ever produced. He was very popular among the older people as well as the young and his death was learned by his many friends with genuine sorrow.
