Diploma L. Westlake, daughter of William and Hannah Westlake, was born in Darke county, Ohio on March 17, 1837, and departed this life March 22, 1915, aged 78 years and 5 days.

She was united in marriage to Joseph S. Morris on March 17, 1857. He has preceded her to the other shore. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Leslie Lamb of this city, Marion, who died in infancy and William E. Morris, of Denver, Colorado. She was converted when a child and united with the Methodist church. In 1870, she with her husband and two children moved to Madison county, Iowa and was a resident of Earlham for thirty years. Here, she became a member of the Presbyterian church and when she came to Winterset with her daughter she united with the Presbyterian church of this place.

She leaves to mourn her loss, three sisters, two brothers, two children, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. She has always been a faithful Christian and died in the hope and assurance of the resurrection.

Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Dr. Corkey and burial was at Earlham on Wednesday where Rev. Follansbee officiated.
