FRANCES DONATHAN WHITT

Frances Donathan Whitt, oldest son of Malinda and Jeremiah Whitt, was born near Bethany, Harrison county, Missouri, August 1, 1847; died near Winterset, age 67 years, 7 months, 4 days.

He, with his parents, came to Iowa in the fall of 1865, settling in Madison county, where he resided until his death. His father died at Pine Bluff, Ark., while serving in General Prices army. After that Frank became the greater support of his mother and sisters.

His mother died in 1868, after which the children scattered about in different parts of the country. He has one brother and three sisters living, two sisters departing this life a few years ago. His brother, N. B. Whitt, of Winterset; Mrs. Ellen Crow, of Decatur, Ill., Mrs. Hannah White, Vollmer, Idaho; Mrs. Martha Woods, of this county.

The deceased never united with any church but was a firm believer in the Savior and often said he was ready to meet him. Funeral services were held at the home of his brother Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial in Baptist cemetery north of town.
