Ephraim Moore, son of Thomas L. and Sarah Moore, was born in Kendall county, Illinois, May 16, 1846. The family came to Madison county when Mr. Moore was six years old. His boyhood was spent in this county and when 18 years old, on June 15, 1864, he enlisted in Co. D, First Iowa Cavalry. He was a good and faithful soldier and received his discharge at Texas on Feb. 15, 1866. He then returned to his old home and lived in Lincoln township until the time of his death. He has long been a member of Pitzer Post G.A.R. of Winterset.

He died very suddenly on the morning of June 10, 1924 aged 78 years and 25 days. He leaves one brother, Wm. T. Moore in the home, and two sisters, Mrs. Emily Pace of Madison county and Mrs. Ellen Bertholf of Burns, Wyo. Two brothers, Anderson and Sylvanus have preceded him. He leaves many other relatives and friends who will ever cherish the memory of his kindly faithfulness.

The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, June 11th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Stanley A. Gillet, pastor of the Baptist church and the body was laid to rest in the Hooten cemetery.
