Hugh Clarke Addy was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, April 10, 1866. He passed away after a few hours illness at his home on January 20, 1915, aged 48 years, 9 months and 10 days.
He came to Madison county, Iowa with his parents in 1881, and there resided until called by death. He was married to Eliza Shultz September 9th, 1891. To this union seven children were born, Vernie M., Celia H., Clara L., Mabel V., Jessie L. and Walter Wyman, one dying in infancy in 1904.
Besides the wife and six children, he also leaves six brothers and two sisters and a host of friends who mourn the loss of one they held most dear. When a young many, he gave his soul to God, from which time he has been a follower of the lowly Nazarene. He was a kind father, a loving husband and brother and a faithful friend. He was one who in his daily life, beautifully exemplified the teaching of him who “went about doing good.”
Funeral services were held at the home on January 22d, conducted by Rev. E. A. Elliott, an old friend and former pastor of the deceased. Burial was at the North McDonald cemetery.
