Mrs. Susan James Rutherford died on Jan. 5th, at the home of her son, O. S. Rutherford. She had lived in Madison county for 69 years, coming here with her parents, when a child of seven years. Besides the son with whom she lived, three grandchildren survive her. On Monday morning, funeral services were held at the home and burial in the Winterset cemetery.

Susan James was born Nov. 8, 1847 in Madison county, Indiana and departed this life on Jan. 5, 1924, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 28 days. When seven years of age, she came with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, and on May 8, 1869 she was united in marriage to Wm. Rutherford and to this union were born four children. Two of these, Luther and Freddie, died in infancy and Erminta the wife of John McNeley, died in 1918. Outher is the only child living, and with him the mother made her home the last four years. Besides them, she leaves to cherish her memory three grandchildren; E. C. Harris of Winterset and Marie and Susie McNeley of Peru. There is one great grandchild, the son of E. C. Harris. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. More distant relatives and many old friends and neighbors unite with these in sympathy and kind heartedness.

Funeral services were conducted at the Rutherford home by E. B. Chancellor, Monday morning. Burial was made at Winterset.
