Joseph Tiernan died at the home of his brother, Peter in Crawford township, Friday, Jan. 11, at the age of 61 years. The cause of his death was enlargement of the heart which had become serious about two years ago, although his last illness was of only three weeks duration.

Mr. Tiernan was born on a farm in Jasper county coming to his late home at the age of four years. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters. They are Mrs. J. H. McManus, Miss Anna Tiernan, Mrs. R. F. Morrissey and J. T. and P. J. Tiernan.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. V. Dugan at St. Patrick’s Catholic church and interment was made in St. Patrick’s cemetery in Lee township.

JOSEPH TIERNAN DIES SUDDENLY

Old Resident of Crawford Township Dies Suddenly at Home of Heart Failure

Joseph Tiernan, lifelong resident of Crawford township, and oldest son of the Tiernan family died suddenly at his home in Crawford township Friday. Mr. Tiernan had suffered for years from heart disease and was in very poor health last year. His condition became alarming Friday afternoon but before Dr. Davisson could reach his home Mr. Tiernan had passed away.

Mr. Tiernan was born in Jasper County in the state and came with his parents to Madison County in 1868. He was never married. He worked several years in the west and lived in the northern part of the state for a year or two. He liked to travel and was a good observer and took a keen interest in the progress of the nation and state. He was a kindly man and his death is mourned by a wide circle of acquaintances.

The funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Church Monday morning at 10 o’clock, Father Dugan officiating.

The surviving members of family are: P. J. Tiernan, James Tiernan, miss Anna Tiernan, Mrs. Joseph McManus and Mrs. Roger Morrissey, all of this county.
