Death of Mrs. Al Benson

Mrs. Al Benson died last night about 12 o’clock at the local hospital from cancer of the liver and gall bladder at the age of 59 years. Mrs. Benson had lived in Winterset the past 11 years, in the southwest part of town.

She has been very sick for the past ten weeks and her friends will be sorry to hear of her death.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Church of Christ, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

She is survived by her husband and five children: Mrs. Charles Libby and Grace of Winterset, Marion of St. Joe, Herbert of Albert Lea, Minn., and Martin of Perry.

Mrs. Benson was born in Mechanicsville and later moved to Nebraska where she lived until she came here 11 years ago. A more complete account of her life will be published next week.

Margaret Elma Hoover was born at Mechanicsville, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1863 and departed this life July 18, 1923 at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 16 days. She was united in marriage to Albert P. Benson at Council Bluffs on Aug. 24, 1892 and to this union were born eight children, three of whom preceded her in death. Those living are: Herbert of Albert Lea, Minn.; Martin N. of Perry; Marion E. of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Mrs. Gertrude Libby and Grace Benson, both of Winterset.

Mrs. Benson became a member of the Methodist church in early life and continued in that fellowship.

She leaves to cherish her memory the husband, five children and two sisters: Pollie and Emma Hoover of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Other more distant relative, friends and neighbors join these in the spirit of tender sympathy.

Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ on Friday by Rev. E. P. Chancellor. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
