The funeral of Sylvanus Compton was held at the residence on Tuesday afternoon. A large crowd was present. Rev. Nelson, pastor of the Friends church, had charge of the service, assisted by Mrs. Lescault, who offered prayer and read the obituary.

Mr. Compton was an Earlham pioneer, living for many years on the farm that is now occupied by Henry Thomsen and later bought the farm on which his son, Nate, now lives. He left the farm when he was not able to work, coming to town, where he with his wife, have lived for many years. This good man will be missed by the whole community in which he has stood during his whole life, a man among men with honesty, truthfulness and loyalty always by his side. In business, these three characteristics were very noticeable and everyone trusted him fully.

His family, to whom he has been an unusually affectionate and loving husband and father, have sustained a loss that can never be replaced. His wife and seven children were all with him during his sickness, as his daughter who was in Michigan arrived before his death. His children are: Frank, Ed, Nate, Silas, Mrs. Chas. Barnett of Earlham, Mrs. Z. Fuller of Hillsdale, Mich., and Mrs. Grant Shiflett of Tingley.

Note: Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.
