LELA HAYES, WINTERSET

Lela Ilean Hayes, 90, of Winterset died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Winterset Care Center North. Services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Monday, Oct. 18, with Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Interment followed in the Young Cemetery in Truro. Memorial contributions may be made to her family.

Ilean was born May 19, 1920, in Kellerton, Iowa, the daughter of Orval Frank Hendrickson and Merle Emma (Smith) Hendrickson. She attended country school near Cumming and Bevington, and attended Patterson High School. She was united in marriage to Clarence Hayes on Dec. 24, 1948, in Clarinda. Ilean worked as a nurse's aid for the Leisure Manor in Osceola for many years in the 70s. She attended the Christian Church in Wick, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; her son, Everett; son-in-law, David Bailey; sisters, Wilma Hope, Lois Mason; brothers, Lowell, Donald and Dale Hendrickson.

She is survived by two daughters, Ronda Bailey of Winterset and Janice Hayes of Des Moines; three sisters, Doris Legg of Ankeny, Edith Kerns of Murray and Inez Green of Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Rola Hendrickson of West Des Moines and Francis Hendrickson of Indianola; a sister-in-law and many other relatives and friends.

Lela Ilean Hayes, daughter of Orval Frank Hendrickson and Merle Emma (Smith) Hendrickson was born May 19, 1920 in Kellerton, Iowa and passed from this life Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa at 90 years of age.

Ilean went to country school near Cummings and Bevington, she attended Patterson High School. Being one of eleven children, she learned that helping out around the house and the farm was very important. She was united in marriage to Clarence Hayes on December 24, 1948 in Clarinda, Iowa and three children blessed this union, Janice, Everett and Ronda.

Ilean worked as a nurse's aid for the Leisure manor in Osceola for many years in the 70s. When it became necessary for her older brother to have home care she took care of him in her home.

Ilean enjoyed her flowers; she had a big garden and always canned many things. She was a very good cook. She attended the Christian Church in Wick, Iowa.

Ilean was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; son Everett; son-in-law, David Bailey; sisters, Wilma Hope, Lois Mason; brothers, Lowell, Donald and Dale Hendrickson. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Ronda Bailey of Winterset, Janice Hayes of Des Moines; sisters, Doris Legg of Ankeny, Edith Kerns of Murray and Inez Green of Springfield, Missouri; brothers, Rola (Carolyn) Hendrickson of West Des Moines and Francis (Beverly) Hendrickson of Indianola; sister-in-law, Anita Hendrickson of West Des Moines; other relatives and friends.

Truro area news

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Lela Hayes who passed away on Oct. 14. Lela was the sister of Francis Hendrickson and the late Wilma Hope. Francis and Wilma lived in St. Charles and Francis presently lives with his wife, Beverly, in Indianola. Mrs. Hayes’ funeral was held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Kale’s Funeral Home and her burial was in Young Cemetery of Truro. Memorials may be directed to the family.
