MELVIN JENSEN, WINTERSET

Melvin Lester Jensen, 91, of Winterset died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at the Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Oct. 6) at the Fairview Church near Stuart, with burial at the Fairview Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be directed to the family at ochiltree.com. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Melvin Jensen was born on March 26, 1919, in Kirkland, Iowa, the son of Peter and Edna (Miller) Jensen. His marriage to Ruby Ahnen took place on Dec. 17, 1939, in Creston. Melvin was a farmer all his life. He was also employed by Solar Air Craft in Des Moines, and drove a stock truck for several years. He was a member of the Fairview Church for many years and was involved with many church activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two grandsons, Little Bob and Bryan Jensen; and five brothers, Leo, Leland, John, Ed and Otis.

He is survived by his children –– Zella Studer of Ames, Joyce Binns of Winterset, Joanne Akin of Johnston, Betty Lauer of Winterset, Bobby Jensen of Nevada; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lettie Loper of Council Bluffs; and two sisters-in-law, Nadine Jensen of Council Bluffs and Maxine Jensen of Winterset
