Samuel E. Hiskey was born in Richland county, Ohio, Oct. 21, 1846 and died Sept. 5, 1913, aged 66 years, 10 months and 16 days. On Sept. 2 he took his shotgun and went to his melon patch to shoot some crows that were destroying his melons. In some way the kick of the gun scratched his thumb. The scratch, not a serious one, not much attention was paid to it for a day or two. Blood poison set in and nothing could be done by the home doctor and on Thursday he was taken to the Mercy hospital in Des Moines where he died Sept. 5.

He came with his parents to Iowa in 1854 where he made his home ever since. May 19, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy A. Cornelison. To them were born ten children, six sons and four daughters: Wood, Elmer, Elbert, Elza and Mrs. Gertie Jackson, who live in and near Lorimor; Roy of Peru; Mrs. Vesta Dodd of Riceville, Iowa; Mrs. Stella Peterson, Mrs. Hattie Bronson and Vern Hiskey of Montana. All were present at the funeral except those in Montana, who were unable to get here and Mrs. Jackson, who is sick at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, the children, a brother, three half brothers, three half sisters, 31 grandchildren, besides scores of relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Ross, pastor of the M. E. church of Lorimor. Interment took place in the Barney cemetery.
