Page 5Hue L. Short, aged 81 years and 20 days, died at the home of his daughter in Minneapolis, Minn., June 17, 1913, after an illness of two weeks. His body was brought to Winterset and buried beside his wife who died seventeen years ago.
Mr. Short was born in Indiana May 27, 1832. When a very young man he came to Iowa where he engaged in farming near Winterset. He was married to Jane Connoran January 18, 1857. To them were born eight children, three of whom died in infancy and one, Mrs. Margaret Jane Short Lucas, at Butte, Mont., fifteen years ago.
He was a veteran of the civil war and a member of the First Iowa Cavalry.
For the past four years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. B. F. Yates in Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Trumbull White, of New York City; Miss Avy Short, of Chinook, Mont., and Mr. H. C. Short, of Medora, N. Da. There are six grandchildren.
The funeral here was conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis, pastor of the Church of Christ, which church he had been a member for many years. The pall bearers were old friends and civil war veterans.

Minneapolis, Minn., June 20. – Hugh L. Short, 81 years old, a member of the First Iowa cavalry during the Civil war, died Tuesday at his home, 2200 Sixteenth avenue south. Three daughters, Mrs. Benjamin F. Yeates of Minneapolis, Mrs. Trumbull White of New York city and Miss Avy Short of Chinook, Mont., and one son, H. C. Short of Medora, N.D., survive him.
Mr. Short was born in Lawrence, Ind., and at an early age went to Iowa, where he engaged in farming. Mrs. Short died eighteen years ago.
The body was taken to Winterset, Iowa, the family home, for burial.
