Rosanna Downs was born in the state of Indiana in 1819, and departed this life May 22, 1913, aged 93 years, at the home of her son, Geo. Austin, at Barney, Iowa.

She was married to Fredrick Souders in 1837. To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter, the daughter dying in her 27th year. The son, Daniel Souders, residing now at Willard, Colo. Her husband died in 1855.

She was again married to Sands Austin in 1860. To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter, the daughter dying in infancy.

Mrs. Austin moved with her husband and family to this state in 1870, settling in Madison county in 1876. In 1882 she moved to Thomas county, Kan. Where she resided until 1891 when she returned to Madison county where she resided until her death. She leaves two sons and other relatives to mourn her loss.

Note: Burial was made in the Barney cemetery.
