Mary Elizabeth Atkinson Evans was born in Monroe Co., Va., Sept. 24th, 1835, and died at the home of her son, J. G. Evans, in Scott township, May 20th, 1913, aged 77 years, 8 months and 26 days.

She moved with her parents to Indiana in 1840, at the age of eighteen she moved to Missouri.

In Dec. 1854 she was united in marriage to Henry Evans, and to this union was born eleven children, ten of whom are living: Mrs. J. C. Thornbrugh, Mrs. J. Cridling of Winterset, Mrs. W. W. Hudspeth of Elida, N. M., Mrs. C. N. Osborne of Barney, William Edward of Oklahoma, Harry V. of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. Wm. McCloskey of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Owen Peacock of Los Angeles, Calif., Thos. L. and John G. of Winterset. She leaves besides her children, 33 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her loss.

The funeral was held from the home Thursday and she was laid to her last rest beside her husband in the Baptist cemetery north of town.
