Mary E. Berry, one of Madison county’s oldest settlers, passed away March 23, 1913, aged 83 years, 3 months and 9 days. She was born in Kentucky Dec. 19, 1829. Was married to Samuel Klingensmith March 14, 1853 and in the spring of 1856 she moved, with her husband, to Madison county, Iowa, settling on the farm where they have lived ever since.

To this union eight children were born, two having died in infancy and a daughter in later years. The children living, all of whom were present at the funeral are: Mrs. Melissa Bonham, Mrs. Sarah Smith, Victoria, Edd and Geo. Klingensmith, all of Lorimor.

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 11 o’clock Monday morning by the Methodist pastor, James Ross, of Lorimor, and interment was made in the Kilgore cemetery.

Note: Burial was made in the Hamblin cemetery.
