Death of Mrs. Wm. Thornburg

Mrs. Wm. Thornburgh died at her home on East Washington street on last Saturday at the age of seventy one. Death was caused by paralysis. Mrs. Thornburg was one of the very early settlers, having resided in this county since 1855. She leaves a husband and eight children. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon and burial in the Winterset cemetery. An obituary notice appears elsewhere in this paper.

Obituary

Elizabeth Roby was born in Allegany county, Maryland, February 7, 1841 and departed this life Oct. 25, 1912, aged 71 years, 3 months and 18 days. She came with her parents to Madison county in the fall of 1855.

She was married to Wm. Thornburg, February 14, 1859, to this union were born thirteen children, eight girls and five boys. Mrs. Dora Pe------- died in 1897, Mrs. J. Clampitt of Lawrence, Kansas; Mrs. G. H. Adams of Gasgow, Mont., B. F. Thornburg, Adel; Mrs. Joe Weaver, Silver City; Mrs. Joe Cooper, Winterset; Mrs. C. A. Hill of Winterset; W. E. Thornburg of Winterset; and Mrs. A. Jackson who died in 1903 besides three dying in infancy. Of the eight living, six were with her during her last illness.

Besides her husband and children, she leaves to mourn her loss three brothers and three sisters, Hamilton Roby of California; Winfield S. Roby of California; Thomas J. Roby of Arkansas; Mrs. Eliza Umbell of Pennsylvania; Maria Longinacker of Randolf, Iowa; Susan S. Farris of Ottawa, Kansas; thirty nine grand children, and thirteen great grand children, besides a host of friends. During her early life she united with the U. B. church in which she still held her faith.

The funeral was held from the home Tuesday, Oct. 29th at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. B. Richards of Patterson. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
