WAYNE SIDNEY HAUSCHILDT, Earlham

Wayne S. Hauschildt, age 56, of Earlham died Thursday September 15, 2010 at his home in Earlham. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Earlham Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham for a luncheon and fellowship time.

Wayne was born September 25, 1953 to Harold and Viola (Marsh) Hauschildt of Mapleton, Iowa. Wayne was born in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa. He remained in the hospital for several months due to a coaratation of the aorta. Due to his delicate condition and the fact that he might not survive, he was baptized at the hospital when he was 17 weeks old. The doctors chose to send him home because of the chance of his survival in a nursery with an outbreak of diarrhea was slim. In 1966, he had surgery to remove this kink in his aorta.

While recovering from this surgery, he taught himself to play the guitar, the way that Chet Atkins plays. Wayne started school at the Mapleton Community School. Due to the time he spent in the hospital, he took kindergarten twice. In 1963 he moved to rural Greenfield with his parents. In 1965 he moved to Earlham. Wayne was the first person to graduate midterm from the Earlham School. With enough credits to graduate early, he chose to go to work at Gilcrest Lumber Company in Des Moines.

When he left there he went to work as a carpenter with his brother Randy. Wayne lived away from home for a short time and then moved back to Earlham. He was an avid fisherman and collector of antique bottles, glass and coins. Wayne enjoyed fishing, reading, hunting and playing his guitar. Wayne was an artist that never shared his talent with the world, only God and his family. Most recently he was involved in the scrap metal business. His favorite companion was a come-and-go cat named "Blacky".

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Royce and Everett, and brother-in-law Gary Whiteaker. He is survived by brothers: Don Hauschildt (Mary)of Cape Coral, FL; Randy Hauschildt (Karen) of Earlham; sisters: Marilyn Dollar (Carl) of St. Joseph, MI; Janet Kamm (Donald) of Waukee; Sharon Hauschildt of Earlham; Marsha Whiteaker of Van Meter; Julie Coffman of Waukee; sisters-in-law Barbara (Royce) Hauschildt and Kathy (Everett) Hauschildt both of Greenfield, IA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
