Margaret Shaffer was born in Aberdeen, Indiana, May 20, 1833 and died in Winterset, Iowa, July 18, 1912, aged 78. She was married to John Leech Nov. 25, 1858, who died April 14, 1897. To this union were born six children, Henry A., Junetta and ----- dying in infancy, and Mrs. Jas. Williams, Mrs. Manford Sever, and Miss Ella Leech still survive her and were with her in her last illness. Besides her children, she leaves one brother, Andrew Shaffer and five sisters, Mrs. Jas. Black of Winterset, Mrs. Jane Clemon of Daniphan, Nebr., Mrs. Thos. Ballard of Montezuma, Mrs. Sam Foglesong of Stuart and Mrs. Abe Foglesong of Van Meter besides two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Leech was converted and joined the Methodist church while quite young. For some years, her health has been frail, and her daughter, Miss Ella has watched over her with all the fidelity possible. While it was quite evident she could not live, yet her hope in her Lord was well founded and in this faith she died.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the home at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Walburn, assisted by Rev. Davis. Interment in Rock City cemetery.
