GAYLORD SAWHILL DIES AT 73 YEARS.

Gaylord Sawhill, a well-known Madison county resident most of his life, died Thursday, Dec. 31, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Sawhill was a native of Jackson township where he was born June 22, 1897, a son of Wallace and Clara George Sawhill. His life was spent in Madison county, except for seven years, as a boy, in Colorado. For about 24 years he operated the general store at Podunk on Highway 169, south of Winterset. He moved to Winterset in 1961.

Mr. Sawhill was married Jan. 5, 1921, to Ruby H. Devault, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Robert Campbell of Winterset; and two sons, Wayne Sawhill of Winterset and Dale Sawhill of Ankeny. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Gillespie of Winterset and Mrs. Bertha Dilts of Albuquerque, N. Mex.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. John Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
