WALCOTT, Iowa - Dean R. Patrick, 85, of Walcott, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, Iowa, with interment with military rites at the St. Charles Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa. Visitation will be held from noon until the services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Dean was born in rural Prole, Iowa, and attended high school in St. Mary's and St. Charles, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war he graduated from Simpson College.

A resident of Walcott for the past eight years, he previously had lived in Michigan. He had worked for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America in Chicago as a construction supervisor. He was an avid Cubs fan, liked steam trains and gardening and was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Chicago. In later years, he took great joy in his postcard ministry.

His brother, Don, and sister-in-law, Ella Mae, raised Deana in their home with their children, Donnie, Larry, Susie and Barbie. He became their 2nd dad. Deana has always counted Donnie, Larry, Susie and Barbie as her brothers and sisters and they always only considered her as their sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda "Deana" and her husband Gary Lucht, of Walcott; his brother, James C. Patrick and wife Ruth, of Indianola, and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Patrick, of Beatrice, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 1999, three brothers, Vaughn, Roy and Donald Patrick, and his sister, Phyllis Young.
