MRS. REBECCA SIMONS

Rebecca J. Eicher was born in Harrison county, Ohio, June 13, 1835. She was married to Theodocius Simons in September 1858, who preceded her to the Heavenly home three years ago last May.

To this union were born seven children, whose residences and names are as follows: Mrs. Alice Perry, Mrs. Laura Gates, Mrs. Clara Thompson, all of Warren county; Mrs. Nancy McVey, Mrs. Leverna Shephard of Missouri; C. D. Simons of Elliott, N.D.; and John Simons of Winterset.

Mr. and Mrs. Simons moved from Ohio to Missouri, where they resided only a short time, and moved to Iowa during the winter of l864-65. They settled on a farm six miles northeast of Indianola where they lived until the spring of 86, where they sold the old home and bought a farm two miles north of Indianola. Later, having sold this farm, they decided to retire from the farm life, so came to Madison county and located in Winterset, where they lived until Mr. Simons' death. Mother Simons then decided to make her home with her children.

This she did until her death which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Thompson near Wick, Nov. 12, 1914. She was a woman of great ambition and while she tried to be reconciled to the lot which befell her, the giving up of the old home was often referred to as a great trial.

Having united with the M. E. church when young, the funeral was conducted by Rev. Pritchard of Wick, at the home of her daughter, and interment took place at the Indianola cemetery Saturday. “Blessed are they that die in the Lord.”
