Obituary

David William Clopton was born in Gentry county, Missouri on September 25th, 1858 and died at the home of his sister, December 20, 1914, aged 56. He came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, in the spring of 1861. In 1862 his father enlisted in Company F 39th Iowa Infantry and gave his life for his country after two years service, leaving his widow to raise the five little children. His mother died May 28, 1889.

The departed leave to mourn his death two daughters, one sister, Mrs. George Shaver, three brothers, Asbury, Thomas and Lincoln. During is sickness since September the sister and brothers have watched constantly by his bedside and did all that human hands could do to relieve his suffering. He was patient during his long sickness and his last words were “I'm not afraid to die”.

The funeral services were held from the home of his brother, Asbury, December 22, 1914, the body was laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery. Dr. Corkey of the Presbyterian church was the officiating minister.
